I would like to give 4.5 stars - they did a nearly-perfect job at a great price! There was no hard-sell (I had previously had an irritating experience with CDW windows), when I agreed to have them come for a consultation and in fact before we signed the contract one of the top guys in the company, Peter Stein, came to my house in-person and went over every detail of the construction involved, the timing, potential issues - he was very up-front and honest.
In my case, I wanted to replace 2 normal sliding windows with a very large bay window (and several other direct replacements), which required removing a load-bearing post. I had Peter's personal cell phone # and always received a prompt response; when he said he would be there at my home, he was there. We were able to have 2 Simonton 7500 series French sliding patio doors, a 9'x6' bay window and 3 other large sliding windows (7 total units) completely replaced - not just retro fit over the existing aluminum frame - for a little over $10k, including all construction costs; from my research, this is a very good price (all of the doors/windows were triple E, argon, super-spacer, etc, and easily met the SHGC and U-factor for the U.S. energy rebate). Basically, we had pictures of what we wanted and Peter and Americana Energy Solutions made it happen, and made it happen on-time. The crew he sent out to do the work was high-class and easy to work with also; they were able to complete the job in 2 (long) days. I would/will definitely recommend this company for a window replacement job!
The only negatives I have are on two items: Some of the detail work was not as perfect as I would do myself, for example, the caulking used around the window casing (I supplied the casing, but they installed) looks really good, but up close there are some areas where the caulk is a bit deep and not as smooth as it could be (dip your finger in water and smooth it out and DON'T fill nail holes with caulk!!). We also had, as part of our agreement, that AES would pull the permits and we would pay...the permits never got pulled which put me in bind, since if they are needed some day, it will be a hassle - but, Peter has guaranteed to cover any issues that could arise from this and I watched the construction myself and know it was done correctly. These are minor items, compared to the overall cost and quality of the job. We have a life-time warranty on ALL items, including labor for the construction, the custom-cut cedar-shingle roof on the Bay Window, etc.
Again, I would highly recommend this company and I'm very happy with the results, the price, and their prompt and honest response.
