Review 1/26/2011
On 1/26/11, Lunarpages Hosting charged me to renew a domain name. I had purchased a domain name and hosting plan with Lunarpages in 2009. Before it came time to renew in 2010, I received notice that it was going to renew. I called Lunarpages (and glad to be able to talk to someone) and canceled it all. However, the man helping me with their customer service in Jan, 2010, Ben, convinced me to keep the domain name another year, just in case I ever did set up that long-awaited but never started family web site. I agreed to another year of just keeping the domain name. I was anticipating another renewal notice, but did not receive one this time. According to Lunarpages customer service today, they sent it in Dec, 2010. However, a search of my gmail shows no such notice (be in in the inbox, spam, or trash ... and it wouldn't be spam anyway, as I received the receipt from Lunarpages today for their charge. I would not call Lunarpages liars, as I know email can be sent and fail to make it to the desired destination. But this domain name was not due to be renewed until Feb 9 (two weeks from today), and I did not receive the notice. The manager, Richard, who I spoke to today simply kept repeating the mantra "we emailed you," continuing the implication that either (1) Lunarpages believes there can be no glitches with email, (2) they did all they were legally obligated to do (which may indeed be technically true, but says little of going above and beyond a bit), or (3) that I'm a liar (which was very, very poor form and does not indicate much in the way of customer consideration and a lot about rudeness). I will deal with this via my credit card company. But people do need to be aware of Lunarpages' determination that a small fee collected from a customer is more important than seeking to engender some confidence and appreciation for its reputation. I know I'm small potatoes, but that's the measure of a truly 'big' company - it deals generously with small accounts. I will not use Lunarpages again due to Richard's rudeness in particular, but generally for what I have to believe is a company policy and attitude. If I could give no stars, I would, but it appears I can only give a 1 star rating. Lunarpages, in this case, should have some stars removed.
